Neuroradiology

Neuroradiology faculty surrounding an imaging machine

The Neuroradiology division at George Washington University provides interpretation of a full range of state-of-the-art imaging studies obtained at our hospital and at the three outpatient imaging centers. We serve a diverse population of patients, who come from a number of outpatient referral centers in Washington, D.C. and neighboring mid-Atlantic areas, as well as from our level 1 trauma center, the comprehensive acute stroke center, and the level 4 epilepsy center. The division is composed of three full-time and multiple part-time faculty members.

Our faculty members pursue a diverse set of clinical interests. This sub-specialization allows us to provide standard CT and MR imaging of the neuro-axis, as well as advanced imaging techniques, such as functional MRI, diffusion tensor tractography, quantitative MR for seizure and dementia evaluation, CSF flow imaging, MR spectroscopy, arterial spin labeling perfusion, and dynamic contrast enhanced MRI. We work closely with our colleagues in the GW Medical Faculty Associates' departments of OtolaryngologyNeurosurgery, and Neurology to offer up-to-date imaging protocols and interpretations to meet clinically relevant problems.

In addition to providing a comprehensive clinical service, our faculty members take pride in offering our residents and fellows a well-rounded, affable educational experience. In addition to one-on-one teaching at the reading stations, we offer weekly resident / fellow conferences as well as weekly dedicated fellow sessions. Our faculty members have received the Golden Apple Award multiple times for excellence in teaching. The division is also actively involved in multiple research projects ranging from head and neck to economics/policy to 3D printing.

The GW Radiology Department operates five high-field (1.5T) MRI systems (GE & Siemens), three multi-slice GE CT scanners and a Siemens Flash dual source scanner. A new 3T Skyra MRI scanner is in the process of being installed.
