Overview
The Combined Body & Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship at the George Washington University Hospital (GWUH) is a single one-year position. We are accepting applications for the 2025-2026 academic years. This is a single position that may be filled with a fellow in the "Abdominal Imaging" or "Combined Body & MSK" fellowship track. This fellowship does not participate in a match.
This fellowship will provide advanced training and procedural skills in Body and Musculoskeletal imaging, with emphasis on Body and Musculoskeletal MR training. The fellowship is divided into thirteen 4-week blocks. The fellow will rotate through eight 4-week blocks of Body imaging and five 4-week blocks of Musculoskeletal radiology.
During the Body service months, the fellow will spend 5 blocks on Body CT/MR and 3 blocks on Ultrasound. The majority of the body MR cases will be directed towards the fellow on the Body CT/MR rotation to maximize exposure. The department conducted approximately 90-100 abdominal & pelvic MRI cases per month, with a broad range of pathology and including liver, renal, pancreas MRIs, MR enterography, rectal MRI, and muliparametric prostate MRI. The remainder of the caseload consists of inpatient, emergency, and outpatient abdominopelvic CTs. Dual-energy CT body applications are also utilized. The Ultrasound rotation includes the full gamut of US imaging, including abdominal, pelvic, obstetrical, thyroid, scrotal, vascular and renal and liver transplant studies.
The fellow will also gain extensive experience in CT- and ultrasound-guided biopsies and aspirations, including biopsies of the neck, abdomen and pelvis, conducted through the Body CT and Ultrasound sections.
During the five 4-week blocks on the Musculoskeletal service, the fellow reads MSK MRI and plain films. The plain films and MR volume are shared between the residents and fellow on service. The department conducted aa high volume of MSK MR exams of large and small joings, and peripheral soft tissues. The fellow will participate in MSK procedures, including CT-guided bone biopsies, arthrograms, and diagnostic and therapeutic joint aspirations/injections.
The fellow is given graduated responsibilities on service, and operates under the appropriate supervision of faculty. The fellow learns to manage all aspects of the service, from patient triage, to protocoling of exams, monitoring exams, exam interpretation and dictation.
The fellow is also expected to be an active part of resident and medical student teaching on rotations. The fellow will have opportunities to participate in research alongside the faculty. The fellowship year culminates with a Grand-Rounds style conference by the fellow to the department.

The Body CT & US Divisions consist of four full-time Body-fellowship trained teaching faculty. The MSK division consists of three MSK-fellowship trained teaching faculty.

The Ultrasound Division operates 9 ultrasound machines:
